Deliver Unparalleled Value
  • PLANET’s new President William Hildebolt, Ph.D., CTP, CTP-CSL and new Board of Directors installed.
  • Launched new credit card affinity program with National Processing Company.
  • Trailblazer Program Evaluation sent to both Trailblazers and member participants that were awarded a Trailblazer and areminder e-mail sent to participants telling them to contact their Trailblazer if they haven’t already done so.
  • Updated Team PLANET video to be launched at Summer Leadership Meeting 2009.
  • New interactive format of 2009 Environmental Improvement Awards brochure and entry form completed and posted on PLANET’s Web site.
  • Safety Awards deadline extension reminder e-blast sent to STARS members, PLANET members, nonmembers, and previous year’s entrants.
  • Student Career Days strategic planning meeting held May 20–21. Twenty-one key committee members, including three future host schools, met to discuss all aspects of the event and how to improve on the existing format.
  • New PLANET Accredited logo launched and posted on the PLANET campus section of the Web site; Banner ad for certification placed on PLANETCareers.org.
  • Members received the May issues of PLANET News, Front Page News, Personnel Notebook, Safety $ense, PLANET PR, and the new Green Industry Weekly NewsBriefs. Certified members sent copy of May Inside Certification newsletter.
  • Lawn care occupational analysis (OA) and exam blueprint completed; Lawn care toolkit posted on PLANET Web site and e-mail notification sent to all Lawn Care members.
  • 2009/2010 Publications Catalog now online and available for download. GIC trailer placed on YouTube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YO87Ezjg0V4.
Grow the Green Industry Workforce
  • So far this year, two new schools have been added to the accreditation list, SUNY Cobleskill and Chattahooche Technical College (formerly North Metro Tech), and Milwaukee Area Technical College has been re-accredited; One more re-accreditation site visit scheduled in September at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
  • PLANETCareers.org blog posted to VoiceoftheGreenIndustry.org.
  • E-student members received the May PLANET News.
Partner of Choice
  • Members and staff from PLANET and National Pest Management Association met on May 11, 2009, to discuss a joint Lawn Care Summit to be held in December 2009/January 2010 timeframe.
  • PLANET and Interlocking Concrete Pavers Institute met to discuss GIC programming for 2010.
  • PLANET Public Relations Director Heather Finney is working with Landscape Management and our Director of Government Affairs Tom Delaney on quarterly podcasts regarding legislative issues to begin in July; Heather is also working on an agreement with Landscape Management regarding them promoting and selling some of our publications.
  • Former interiorscape members offered free six-month interior e- membership; Interior membership letter and e-mail sent to current and prospective interior members.
Marketplace Recognition
  • PLANET participated in North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week, May 3–9, 2009; Attendees given OSHA Alliance developed Quick Cards, STARS Brochures, and safety listserv flyer.
  • Members receive Environmental Improvement Awards (EIA) marketing promotion with 40 percent off additional entries.
Proactive Advocacy
  • PLANET Director of Government Affairs, Tom Delaney, met with Greenscape Business Alliance (PLANET, OPEI, ANLA, IA) to discuss carbon offsets, legislative issues, and provide updates on respective organizations.
  • Sent request to several associations for support for the fundraiser during Legislative Day on the Hill for U.S. Rep. Kathy Dahlkemper (D-Pa.).
  • Sent information about the PLANET Political Action Committee golf event to be held at the 2009 Green Industry Conference in Louisville, Kentucky.
  • Gathered information on the U.S. Department of Justice complaints against some Virginia and Maryland H-2B Employers; Prepared and sent notice to PLANET H-2B users about U.S. DoJ complaints against Virginia and Maryland H-2B employers.
  • Reviewed and consulted with other associations on the last draft of EPA WaterSense program for Water-Efficient Single-Family New Home Specifications.
  • Signed PLANET on in support of Rep. Allyson Schwartz (D-Pa.) for H.R. 2222, the Green Communities Act.
  • Discussed Legislative Day on the Hill issues papers with TCIA.
