PLANET installs new board of directors

The installation of the 2008/2009 PLANET Board of Directors took place on March 27, 2008, during Student Career Days in Atlanta, Georgia. “The goal of the new PLANET board will be much more strategic than operational,” says PLANET President Jason Cupp, CLP. “We will focus more on issues impacting the industry, including economic and labor challenges.” 2008/2009 PLANET Board of Directors

Record number of students compete at Student Career Days

Energy and excitement was in the air as almost 1,000 students from 66 schools competed in this year’s Student Career Days at North Metro Technical College in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to the competitive events, attendees spent time at student workshops, a first-ever industry workshop, the Career Fair, and on a tour of The Georgia Aquarium, Pike Family Nurseries, and The Smith-Gilbert Arboretum. Future industry leaders receive PLANET AEF scholarships

The PLANET Academic Excellence Foundation (PLANET AEF) presented 66 scholarships, totaling $70,000, to students at PLANET’s 32nd annual Student Career Days event in Atlanta, Georgia. Congratulations to the scholarship recipients for their hard work and commitment.

Rex Bishop honored as Outstanding Educator of the Year

Congratulations to Rex Bishop, environmental horticulture instructor at North Metro Technical College in Atlanta, Georgia, for being named the PLANET 2008 Outstanding Educator of the Year. The award recognizes professors who have made significant contributions to green industry education by devoting time, energy, and enthusiasm to their programs and to the education of future leaders in the industry.

New publication addresses water quality/quantity issues in turfgrass

The Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST) recently released Water Quality and Quantity Issues for Turfgrasses in Urban Landscapes, the culmination of discussions and presentations from a CAST-sponsored workshop. It features 16 presentations from 25 water, turf, and landscape specialists.
