PLANET ANNOUNCES SUCCESSFUL CERTIFICATION CANDIDATES

Herndon, VA, July 5, 2005 — An important part of the mission of the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) is to promote the professional advancement of its members. One means to achieve that goal is through a certification program that tests individuals against a national standard.

Certified Landscape Technician-Exterior (CLT-Exterior) … The CLT-Exterior exam
is a daylong event that tests the candidate’s ability to properly use equipment, demonstrate an understanding of handling plants and related materials, and pass written general comprehension tests — all done under the pressure of strict time frames. The candidate selects a specialty area (Maintenance, Installation, or Irrigation) and is judged on the skills and knowledge needed to perform tasks in that specialty.

State associations are licensed by PLANET to administer the test. PLANET congratulates the following newly certified exterior landscape technicians.

Certified Turfgrass Professional-Cool Season Lawns (CTP-CSL) … The CTP-CSL designation can be earned upon completion of the self-study course, “Management of Cool Season Lawns,” which gives the beginning lawn care or landscape contractor a foundation for understanding lawn and grounds management in the northern United States. The self-study course has 10 sections on topics related to managing cool season turfgrasses — cool season turfgrasses; establishment and renovation; fertilization and liming; mowing, thatch management, aeration, and irrigation; pest management; weed management; diseases; identification and management of insect pests; pesticides and pesticide safety; and pesticide application equipment and calibration. Congratulations to the following individuals for achieving the CTP-CSL designation.
