PLANET HONORS RECIPIENTS OF JUDGES’ AWARDS

Herndon, VA, November 15, 2005 — The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) has awarded LaurelRock Company in Wilton, Connecticut, and Gardeners’ Guild in San Rafael, California, with the 2005 PLANET Judges’ Award at the recent Green Industry Conference awards banquet in Orlando, Florida.

Because of the exceptional quality of LaurelRock’s exterior residential design/build project, “Putnam County Retreat,” and Gardeners’ Guild’s “555 California Street” interior maintenance project, judges of this year’s Environmental Improvement Awards Program chose to honor these companies with these prestigious awards.

LaurelRock faced many challenges, including pervasive rock and steep slopes, in creating a new look for its client’s existing weekend retreat. The project design included a new guest house/garage building, a large porch addition, and a new swimming pool and spa. The plan also called for removing a two-car garage located adjacent to the house and replacing an existing driveway.

Gardeners’ Guild maintains hundreds of plants in varied microclimates for its client; these microclimates include extremely low light conditions and intense spot lighting, hot and cold temperatures throughout the facility, and wind coming from many building doorways. Other issues include foot-traffic damage and theft. Additionally, work must be completed by 7:00 a.m. daily, so crews begin at 3:00 a.m. The company has maintained this property since February 2003.
