PLANET ANNOUNCES SUCCESSFUL CERTIFICATION CANDIDATES

Herndon, VA, December 1, 2005 — An important part of the mission of the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) is to promote the professional advancement of its members. One means to achieve that goal is through a certification program that tests individuals against a national standard. PLANET is pleased to announce that several members recently earned certification designations.

Certified Landscape Professional (CLP) … To achieve the CLP designation, a candidate must have the education and experience necessary to qualify to take the test and master a body of material on all aspects of running a landscape business. The six-hour exam is divided into five sections: Business; Risk, Law, and Contracts; Human Resources and Health/Safety; Exterior Production/Operation and Horticulture; and Sales, Marketing, Communications, and Public Relations. PLANET congratulates the following new CLPs.

Roger Beale, CLP, Bland Landscaping Company, Inc., Apex, NC
Rick Burden, CLP, Luke Brothers Landscape Services, Holiday, FL
Brad Cox, CLP, Lawn Management Company, Inc., Houston, TX
Kevin Foust, CLP, D.P.S. Landscape Company, St. John, IN
Harold E. Wildman, CLP, Riverside Tree & Landscape Company, Inc., Ashland, MA
Steve Woods, CLP, Five Season Landscape Management, Inc., Reynoldsburg, OH

Certified Landscape Technician-Interior (CLT-Interior) … Applying to take the CLT-Interior exam requires a letter of recommendation from the technician’s employer. The candidate must then pass a four-hour written test, covering such topics as pesticides, plant identification, safety, watering/subirrigation, pruning, fertilization, insects, disease, and customer relations. PLANET congratulates the following newly certified interior landscape technicians.

Kim Herud, CLT, Anything with Plants and Flowers, Jacksonville, FL
George Kilgore, CLT, Tropical Nature, Inc., Tampa, FL

Certified Landscape Technician-Exterior (CLT-Exterior) … The CLT-Exterior exam
is a daylong event that tests the candidate’s ability to properly use equipment, demonstrate an understanding of handling plants and related materials, and pass written general comprehension tests — all done under the pressure of strict time frames. The candidate selects a specialty area (Maintenance, Installation, or Irrigation) and is judged on the skills and knowledge needed to perform tasks in that specialty.

State associations are licensed by PLANET to administer the test. PLANET congratulates the following newly certified exterior landscape technician.

David Dremsa, CLT (Installation), The Hawks Nursery Company in Wauwatosa, WI
