PLANET Specialty Groups

PLANET’s membership is contained within four areas — Design/Build/Installation, Interior Plantscaping, Landscape Management, and Lawn Care — each represented by a specialty group. These four specialty groups consist of eight to 10 individuals who monitor and address the needs of their constituencies through strategic initiatives involving PLANET’s products, services, and events.

Design/Build/Installation Specialty Group

Chair: Michael McShane
Committee Staff Manager: Jessica Conn
This specialty group strives to ensure that the member companies that fall under its umbrella get the most out of their membership. An open communication with this portion of the membership has been established to improve PLANET’s offerings according to their needs and desires, as well as to increase their participation in the programs and services offered by the organization.

The D/B/I group is also actively engaged in the effort to standardize the membership satisfaction and needs surveys to help in recruiting new members and retaining the existing members. This specialty group has created links with the other specialty groups, committees, and subcommittees to improve programs and services for its membership base.

Interior Plantscaping Specialty Group

Chair: Chris Raimondi, CLP
Committee Staff Manager: Cecilia Riek-Whitham
The Interior Plantscaping specialty group ensures that the needs of interior plantscaping company members are met and are represented on each committee. Additionally, the group supports the Green Plants for Green Buildings initiative and helps raise awareness of Interior Plantscaping within the membership and externally to consumers.

Landscape Management Specialty Group

Chair: Bill Horn, CLP, CLT
Committee Staff Manager: Kathy Wemhoff
The Landscape Management Specialty Group addresses the short-term as well as the long-term needs and concerns of the landscape maintenance contractor members. Members spearhead maintenance-related initiatives, such as increasing attendance at maintenance educational programs, increasing the membership of landscape management companies, developing publications, and improving their overall satisfaction.

Lawn Care Specialty Group

Chair: Tom Mauer, CLP
Committee Staff Manager: Betsy Demoret
This specialty group sets standards and criteria for PLANET’s lawn care members.  Its purpose is to recommend improvements to PLANET products, services, and increase participation in the association’s programs as they relate to the lawn care industry. The group achieves these goals through comprehensive ongoing surveys of the lawn care industry, feedback and direction to PLANET committees.

The group actively pursues lawn care members’ needs — example:  creating the Lawn Care Online Toolkit.  Directed by Chairman Fred Haskett, the group has helped establish a strong team that continues to work side by side with the other specialty groups and still keep PLANET’S lawn care members’ needs a top priority.
