| Certified Landscape Technician - Exterior | The CLT- Exterior exam is a hands-on field test. Candidates choose to test in Installation, Maintenance or Irrigation. The CLT Exterior exam is available in many U.S. states and four Canadian provinces.
Who should take the CLT - Exterior exam?
Any exterior technician who wants to establish credentials by meeting international standards for safe and effective operation of machinery and demonstrating a thorough understanding of all facets of the position. For the best chance of success, it is recommended that candidates have:
- 4,000 hours of work in the landscape industry, or
- 2,000 hours in the landscape industry, plus the completion of a 2 or 4 year curriculum in a landscape major, or
- 1,000 hours in the landscape industry, plus the completion of a 2 or 4 year curriculum in a landscape major that included completing an internship in the field.

Candidates concentrate on landscape trees and ornamental woody plant physiology, health care management, and establishment.
