 | PLANET Educator Trailblazers Program | | |
PLANET’s Educator Trailblazers represent an elite group of dedicated educators who were nominated by their peers for making significant and long-term contributions to the green industry. Direct influences in the green industry, these individuals are committed to helping their peers grow their horticulture programs, as well as helping the green industry grow. Each Trailblazer sets aside a full day each year to provide on-site mentoring to another PLANET green industry educator. This in-depth, personalized networking and mentoring program is a unique way for emerging and established educational institutions to gain insight and advice on developing and growing their horticulture programs. Trailblazers Requirements - A nominee must be a PLANET member at the time of their Trailblazer approval.
- A nominee should have a minimum of 5 years in the green industry.
- A nominee can only remain active in the Trailblazer program for 3 years following retirement.
Nomination and Approval Process: - Nominations for Trailblazers are solicited from the peer educators through the PLANET News and the website.
- PLANET contacts nominees to assess their areas of expertise, level of interest, and confirm qualifications to participate.
- PLANET contacts previous year’s Trailblazers to reconfirm their interest in participating and update any information needed. Once they are selected as a trailblazer, they do not need to meet additional on-going requirements to continue in the program.
- Staff submits a dossier on proposed Trailblazers for the coming year for review by the Accreditation Committee and the Membership Committee and subsequent presentation to the Board for approval.
Current Expectations of the Trailblazer - Only educator-to-educator matching.
- Agree to be matched with a PLANET member educator for a day of mentoring.
- Agree for the Mentee educator to travel to the Mentor educator’s campus – at the expense of the Mentee educator.
- Agree to provide picture and bio for Trailblazer brochure.
- Understand that they may opt out when contacted each year.
- Agree to provide a report of experience to PLANET.
Current Requirements of Educator Mentee: - Apply for the program anytime throughout the year and list 3 choices from the current Trailblazers.
- Understand that when their match is made, the hosting educator communicates with the Trailblazer and set up the most convenient time and place for this day of mentoring.
- Understand that this is a lottery, nothing guaranteed. Demand exceeds supply.
Agree to provide report of their experience to PLANET. Other Trailblazer Categories - Design/Build/Installation
- Interior Plantscaping
- Landscape Management
